On Monday night the unbeaten Kingswood 1st XV played Blundell’s 1st XV as a pre-cursor to Bath United playing Sale in a Cup semi-final.

The weather could not have been better and the pitch was in magnificent condition which helped both sides produce a high quality, very competitive match. Both defences were very well organised and the tackling proved hard for both attacks to break down. A half break by Kingswood's Waters led to a try for MacKenzie early on and a penalty by Waters proved the only scoring of the first half.

Ultimately, Kingswood’s forwards proved superior, and with Scott stealing several balls against the head in the scrum, the pressure told and early tries in the second half by McAlpine twice and Morgan, gave Kingswood a cushion of 31-3. Blundell’s scored a late consolation try as the game finished 31-8.

Captain Jack Crowther, George Broom and Oliver Morgan were the outstanding forwards on the night whilst the midfield trio of Owen Waters, Connor McAlpine and Dominic MacKenzie were a constant threat in attack. All 24 players in the squad enjoyed a run-out on the famous pitch and supporters arriving early for the Bath game were treated to an impressive demonstration of schoolboy rugby.

Kingswood’s 1st XV remain unbeaten going in to their final two fixtures with the 2nd XV and U14s also competing to maintain their unbeaten records throughout the season. The strength in depth of this seasons U18 squads will come as no surpise to those who followed last years U16s. That team not only went unbeaten through the regular season (including a handsome win over Millfield), they did it without conceding a single point.
