The inaugural Manchester 7s Schools Festival is proving a popular addition to the Schools 7s circuit and Schools can still register. It takes place on the weekend of the 9th-10th March at Broughton Park RFC.

The Festival only launched in September and has already received great interest from schools around the UK, with entries from Loughborough, Wisbech, Kirkham, Millfield and Warwick to name a few. The national schools festival, for U12s up to U18s, will take place over the weekend of the 9-10 March at Broughton Park RUFC.

The Festival has been created by the organisers of the existing Manchester 7s Festival, which takes place in May annually and is for senior and club sides. The Manchester 7s launched in 2008 and has grown into one of the largest and most prestigious 7s tournaments in the UK.

"We are very excited about the addition of the Manchester 7s Schools Festival and so far the response from schools has been excellent" commented Marco Vaghetti, Festival Director.

"The Schools 7s circuit up north already includes many prestigious tournaments, and has long been a breeding ground for future 7s players, including the current England 7s captain Rob Vickerman. We hope the Manchester 7s adds to this proud history of exciting tournaments up north".

Over the weekend players and spectators can also look forward to a range of activities off the pitch, including an Army Assault Course, Trade Village, Celebrity Rugby Players and a Big Screen showing the live 6 Nations matches.

Current England 7s player Danny Bibby has been seen playing in both Social and Elite tournaments at the Manchester 7s in recent years. With the addition of U12s to U18s tournaments the Manchester 7s has now established a clear steppingstone of junior and senior tournament levels, a fact Marco is proud of -

“Danny started playing in the social tournaments about four years ago and gradually moved up the tournament levels before eventually being spotted by Sale Sharks playing in our Elite tournament. As Rugby 7s enthusiasts we are proud to now be offering a variety of tournaments at both junior and senior level and look forward to seeing the next generation of British 7s players passing through the Manchester 7s in the coming years.”
