Royal Grammar School, High Wycombe lifted the first trophy of this year's Rosslyn Park HSBC National Schools Sevens after being crowned 2014 Junior champions on day two.

Going head to head with fellow finalists Christ's Hospital in front of an enthusiastic crowd, RGS High Wycombe ran in four tries to win 24-7 on the 75th anniversary of the tournament.

Both schools had gone unbeaten throughout both the group and knockout stages with former Christ's Hospital pupil and England star Joe Launchbury in attendance on Tuesday to cheer his side on.

But it was RGS High Wycombe who were left celebrating success with captain Efan Morris receiving the trophy from Launchbury's London Wasps teammate Jack Moates.

"It feels really good to win the tournament, we were hoping we would win but we never thought we would actually do it," said the 13-year-old.

"We are all ecstatic to get the victory, we all fought to the end and didn't give up and managed to win.

"There were a few moments where I thought they might come back but we managed to see it through. It's been an amazing experience and I'm really proud of the team."

RGS High Wycombe were not the only team celebrating on Tuesday, with Millfield School crowned Rosslyn Park HSBC National Schools 7s Prep Schools champions following a 26-5 win over St Martin's Ampleforth.

It means Millfield have now gone 39 games unbeaten this season with captain Stuart Rushmere proud of his teams efforts in the final of the world's largest school Sevens tournament.

"It was a great performance by the lads, we put in great tackles and built on our defence," he said. "We were all nervous but we knew we just had to dig deep and find the performance.

"It's a huge tournament, there's lot of competition so to win the nationals is big for us, and well done to the entire team."

Tuesday also saw the start of the Colts competition, with more than 150 teams taking part in the group stages and round of 32. One of those to stand out were Sedbergh School, who conceded just ten points from their six games, with captain James Botham aiming to go all the way on Wednesday, starting with a last-16 clash with Bloxham School.

"The performances from the lads have been great, we have got things to improve on but we are looking forward to tomorrow," he said.

"This is our last tournament as a team and that's why everyone is so excited and putting in everything we have. It would be great if we could go out by winning the tournament."
