Whitgift collected their Evening Standard Team of the Year award at a special sixth form assembly at the Croydon school.
Captain Charlie Hopkins received the trophy from Andrew Bordiss and said the team's success was mainly down to the coaching team, led by Chris Wilkins. "They inspired us, led from the front and we all bought into the hard work," he said.
Ten of the 22 man squad are available next year when the team hope to maintain their run, which saw only two defeats in 27 matches. The squad won't have long to reflect on their glory: training starts again in a few weeks.
About the Award. London's Evening Standard, one of the most reputable newspapers in the UK, wished to develop a new initiative to support schools' rugby in their region.
They approached www.SchoolsSports.com, the foremost online fixtures and results service provider for schools' rugby in the UK, during the summer of 2007,
to assist them with the building of a regional league covering part of the South East of England. This has been done and the league was launched during October 2007.
Front Up specialise in rugby inspired T-shirts, polos and hoodies. Managing Director Jon Allen said: "As somebody who fell in love with rugby whilst at school I understand how
important team photos and match write ups are in developing your affiliation with the sport. SchoolsRugby.co.uk delivers an excellent online website for coaches, parents and players alike
and we’re delighted to partner the Super XV School Leagues and to be able to offer clothes from our range to each Team of the Month".
Front Up continues to bring the high street to the clubhouse with their latest range. The brand is worn by an increasing number of premiership stars and
endorsed by the likes of Rugby World, Loaded and Sport Magazine.
