A fantastic day of Sevens at Bradford Grammar School in glorious sunshine saw Bradford GS defeat Sedbergh School in the final.

Group A saw Bradford Grammar School win the group with Durham School defeating Ampleforth College in a tight match to qualify for the cup as runners up. In group B Barnard Castle progressed through to the cup with a set of strong performances, with Yarm School securing the runners up spot with a pulsating win against Lymm High School. Group C was a strong group with a number of tight matches between all the teams; Stonyhurst College went through as group winners playing some high quality sevens with Manchester GS finishing runners up. Group D saw Sedbergh School win the group with a game based on a strong defence. St Peters York finished runners up after a tight two point win over Ashville College.

The plate competition saw Lancaster RGS progress to the final with victories over Ashville College and Ampleforth College; whilst Lymm High School defeated Wirral GS and secured a tight victory over RGS Newcastle to earn the right to take on Lancaster RGS. The final was a tight with the lead swapping hands many times before Lymm High School secured the Plate trophy, 27-22, with the final play of the game .

Two epic Cup Quarter Finals saw St Peters York defeat Stonyhurst College with a last minute score and Barnard Castle hold on to beat Durham School. The semi-finals saw Bradford Grammar pushed hard by St Peters before breaking away to win, while Sedbergh School progressed through in a pulsating match against Barnard castle with a last play score.

The final saw Sedbergh School go into a 14-0 lead, before Bradford Grammar school scored an unconverted try just before half time. In the second half tenacious Bradford Grammar School defence resulted in three tries taking Bradford GS into a 24-14 lead. Sedbergh showed great character to score a converted try with the last playoff the game but it was not enough, Bradford being crowned Champions 24-21.

This was Bradford GS’s second North East HMC Schools Sevens victory, following their performance at Durham School.
